This qualification is perfect for anyone seeking a career as a Massage Therapist, working either in a salon, spa, on board a cruise ship or from home and/or mobile. It can be completed as a standalone beauty qualification to work within the beauty industry or as an entry into more advanced beauty training.
This is an internationally recognised and regulated, RQF Qualification.
VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage (500/9043/4) carries 16 credits.
Units covered within this qualification are:
- UV30491 – Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
- UV30468 – Client care and communication in beauty related industries
- UV30424 – Provide body massage
This course can be completed flexibly around other commitments. Learn the knowledge and skills to confidently deliver body massage treatments to a professional standard.
You’ll attend for 2 consecutive days of practical training at our centre to learn the practical skills. Complete written and practical coursework flexibly over 3-6 months from home, guided by resources on our online student portal. Complete multiple choice written exams online and then attend for 1 day of practical assessment at our centre to achieve your qualification.
You will have up to 12 months to complete this qualification, with much of the study completed on a fast track, flexible basis from home.
Entry Requirements
This course is suitable for complete beginners to beauty / massage. No previous qualifications or experience are required.
Open to anyone aged 16 years or over. Note this course does not constitute compulsory full time education for those under 18.
This is an intensive course with lots to learn! Student will need to commit around 16-20 hours independent study per week at home to complete this qualification.
Students must have a good command of spoken and written English (grade C or above GCSE English or equivalent).
Students will need access basic IT skills, plus a desktop pc with camera, microphone, speakers and stable high speed internet connection to complete coursework and online exams.
Comprehensive learning resources are provided via our online student portal to support your studies, which can be accessed conveniently on desktop, tablet or mobile.
No kits are included in the course fee, but products are provided for use on your training day(s). On the training day, you’ll need to bring a hand and bath towel for your personal use, completed enrolment form and cold food for your lunch (e.g. sandwich/salad).
You will need basic massage medium products and beauty couch to complete your case studies at home. Your massage medium products (oil, cream etc.) will also be required on your practical assessment day.
You will need 12 models to practice your treatments upon at home to complete case studies and 2 female models to attend with you for your practical assessment day. These can be friends / family / colleagues etc.
Students must give and receive full body massage treatments during training days, working with other students. Please let us know if any medical conditions that may affect your participation in training, prior to booking this course.
Course Structure
Units covered within this qualification are:
- UV30491 – Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
- UV30468 – Client care and communication in beauty related industries
- UV30424 – Provide body massage
You will need to complete all the following within your 12-month enrolment period to achieve this qualification. This should be completed within the following guideline timescales:
- Attend for 2 consecutive days of practical training at our centre. No models or kits required. Training runs from 10am – 4pm. Please arrive for 9.45am.
- Month 1-3: complete written coursework online, from home flexibly guided by a comprehensive e-textbook provided on our portal with up to 3 months to complete this.
- Month 1-6: Complete practical coursework (12 case studies) on friends/family at home with up to 6 months to complete this.
- Month 7-9: Complete your multiple-choice written exams online from home via Zoom and the VTCT exam website. Usually booked 2-6 weeks ahead.
- Month 8-12: Complete your practical assessment day at our centre, bringing along 2 female models and basic massage products. Practical assessments are only available at our London Kings Cross, Birmingham & Manchester centres. Dates run twice per year at Birmingham and Manchester, and every 3 months at London Kings Cross only, subject to availability.
- Certification: Sent via the post once received from VTCT.

An advantage of completing this qualification is that it will give you the first steps to enable you to go onto further training such as advanced body treatments or even into teaching. The career opportunities are vast!
